Why an app for your Django web app?

From browser tab to home screen.

Django powers portals, marketplaces and data-driven apps where the team is strong in Python rather than Swift or Kotlin. Wrapping your deployed Django app in native iOS and Android shells gets you into the stores without a mobile team, and the admin, auth and templates keep working as before. A JavaScript bridge adds native features such as OneSignal push, AdMob, in-app purchases, sharing and QR scanning.

Your app behaves like a full-screen browser for your Django web app: every change you publish on Django is live in the app immediately – no app update required. Native features such as push notifications, an offline screen, native dialogs and smart link handling are added on top.

See all features

Home screen presence

A real app icon on iPhone and Android devices, installed from the App Store and Google Play.

Push notifications

Re-engage users with OneSignal push messages – or trigger local notifications from your own JavaScript.

Offline screen

Instead of browser errors, users see a branded offline screen with a "Try again" button.

Monetization

AdMob banners and interstitials, in-app purchases and native sharing dialogs are supported.

How it works for Django

Three steps to your Django app.

1

Publish your Django web app

Make sure your web app is live on a public URL (ideally your own domain) and looks good on a phone screen – that URL is what we wrap.

2

Order in a few minutes

Tell us your URL, app name and icon in the order wizard, pick the native features you need and pay securely with Stripe.

3

Receive your apps within 72 hours

We configure the WebViewGold template for your project, optimize it and deliver the full Xcode & Android Studio source code plus store-ready builds.

Preparation checklist

Prepare your Django web app for the app stores.

A few platform-specific tips from our App Specialists for the best result:

  • Deploy to a production domain over HTTPS with correct ALLOWED_HOSTS and CSRF trusted origins for that domain.
  • Keep login and forms on the same domain so session cookies and CSRF tokens work inside the app.
  • Make your templates responsive and set the viewport meta tag; the app shows only the phone layout.
  • Test file uploads, downloads and long-running pages on a phone to confirm they behave as in a mobile browser.
  • Not sure about a setting? Leave it to us – everything can be changed later in the source code, and our support is happy to advise.

Built on WebViewGold. Every Django app we deliver is based on WebViewGold, the WebView app template for iOS & Android developed by our own team – battle-tested in the stores and continuously updated for the latest iOS and Android versions. Prefer to do it yourself? Get the template directly on webviewgold.com.

FAQ

Django to app: frequently asked questions

Does Django authentication work in the app?

Yes. Django’s session-based authentication works inside the app like in a mobile browser, so users stay logged in across app launches. Social logins via django-allauth or similar may need a check, because some OAuth providers restrict sign-in inside embedded browsers.

Can my Django templates use native features?

Yes. The app provides a JavaScript bridge for OneSignal push notifications, AdMob ads, in-app purchases, sharing and QR scanning. Add a few lines of JavaScript to your templates that call the bridge when running inside the app and do nothing in the browser.

What happens when I deploy new code?

The app loads your live Django site, so deployments are visible immediately without resubmitting the app. Only native changes such as icon, name or added capabilities require a new build, which you can do yourself with the delivered source code.

How much does it cost and how do I pay?

Converting one platform (iOS or Android) is a one-time fee of $698; the iOS + Android bundle costs $1,158 (you save $238). The optional App Publishing Service is $318 per platform. Payment is handled securely by Stripe (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay). Prices exclude VAT.

What exactly do I receive?

The complete Xcode project (iOS) and/or Android Studio project including signed APK/AAB files and keystore (Android), plus a step-by-step quick start guide for the App Store and Google Play submission. The apps are built on the WebViewGold template, so you keep the full, editable source code.

What if Apple or Google rejects the app?

Store approval depends on the content of your app, and most WebView apps based on a responsive, app-like website pass review. If Apple or Google rejects your app for non-content reasons, we offer a full refund of the setup fee when you claim it within 14 days after purchase – see our Terms and Conditions.
